As soon as the government starts paying for anything then, prices rocket & corruption ensues.
Rents - These are so expensive, that nobody can actually afford to rent,
unless they are on benefit - I still remember when landlords used to
refuse benefit claimants (now it's a prerequisite).
Legal Aid - Because of legal aid, legal fees have gone through the roof
(my lawyer charges £160.00 / hour, and people tell me that I'm getting a
bargain).
Same with Dentistry - A filling used to cost £12.00, now it's the best part of £70.00.
"Market economic, skewed by social responsibility", or "Government and tax payers screwed by market economics".
